Sorting Fun

Last week in math we began a new math unit on patterns. We started by talking about attributes and sorting. These pictures show us sorting our "junk tubs." Each student sorted a junk tub into 2 groups (big and small, circle and not circle, etc). They would then leave the sort on their desk and go find a different sort. They had to look at the new sort, figure out how the person sorted it and then sort the junk tub in a different way. We had so much fun doing this and it really got us thinking and problem solving as we tried to figure out why our friends had sorted their junk that way. Since that first day, we have learned about making and labeling all sorts of patterns. Today we even had a snowball fight with patterns. Ask your child to tell you about that and how they all ambushed me!
