Seeds, Seeds, Seeds!

This week we started a 2 week unit on plants. On Monday we started by talked about living vs. non-living things and then spent some time "investigating" seeds. We looked at a variety of seeds with our magnifying glasses and looked for things that all of the seeds had in common. We realized that all of the seeds had a "small white dot" and that they were all "pretty small". On Tuesday we got to take apart a lima bean and learn about all of the different parts of a seed. We saw and learned about the coat, the plant, and the food. Have your child tell you the job for each part of the seed.

Tomorrow we will talk about the life cycle of a plant and actually plant some seeds to grow in our class. On Friday we have our Apple Day and next week each child will get to plant their very own seeds to grow and then bring home. Should be a fun plant unit!
